Fishing Onboard the Edward John - Part 2

Onboard the Edward John-Part 2

WOW! What a day we had today onboard the Edward John Head Boat fishing out of Erie, Pa.

TODAY, August 16th, my son and I returned to the Edward John for another day of persh fishing. It was somewhat cooler today and we were excited. We had heard that the perch were hitting really good and we knew the Edward John would find them for us.

Our Captain for the day was Laureen Gnarra and Todd was our first mate. Laureen's husband, Chuck was also onboard to help us.

We left the dock at Dobbin's Landing at almost exactly 7 AM and headed for a spot known on Lake Erie as the Condos. This spot is just north of the entrance to Presque Isle State Park. It didn't take too long to get there and everyone
onboard was ready to catch perch when we got there. My son Danny, had the honor of bringing the first perch onboard for the day. It would not take long until we all were catching perch.

This GREAT fishing would last for almost two hours and then it started to slow down. After the fishing slowed, our captain decided to pick-up and start a small search pattern looking for another large school of perch. According to Chuck, the spot we left had yielded over 1400 perch the last two days to the fishermen onboard the Edward John.

The next spot reminded me of the Dead Sea...nothing was caught here and it did not take long until we were on the move again.

FINALLY, we reached the spot that all perch fishermen dream of...the Honey Hole. For the next 1 and 1/2 hours we could do no wrong. Put two minnows on the hooks, drop them to the bottom of the lake and reel up 1 or 2 perch. It was crazy! My son and I had 15-20 doubles and easily caught our limit of perch. We caught our limit and so did everyone else on the boat for this trip. OVER 690 perch were caught today and a FUN day was had by all onboard.

Our Honey Hole was out in front of the point of Presque Isle in about 55' of water. By the time we left to go in, the spot was filling up with a lot of perch fishermen hoping for their lucky day. I am sure they had fun, that's for sure!

On the way back to the dock, Chuck ran the boat in while Laureen and Todd cleaned fish. The cleaning of fish is a service for a fee that is made available to all the fishermen onboard the Edward John. Onboard the Edward John, they have cold drinks and snacks available. If you need a fishing license, you can purchase it onboard and there are also rods and reels available for rental.

We are having a fish fry in September at our campground and now we have a good start on the fish. Way to go Edward John.

Once again, the Captain and crew of the Edward John were top knotch. If you come up to Erie for a fishing trip or vacation, BE SURE to go fishing on the Edward John. You will not be dissapointed!
