FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
--------------------
*****************************************************************************
Come Tuesday, Jan. 8, its high noon in Chambersburg over Sheriff’s over-reaction to open carry
*****************************************************************************
The open carry of holstered handguns is growing in Pennsylvania, from Lancaster,[1] to Erie,[2] and now Chambersburg where the Sheriff has been summoned to Court to explain why he revoked Greg “Rotz' concealed weapon permit after an incident at the New Franklin voting precinct on Election Day (Nov. 6). A state constable challenged Rotz who was wearing a handgun in a holster at his side. The constable cautioned Rotz to leave the gun in his vehicle. Rotz asserted his right to open carry.”[3]
Open carrier Greg Rotz says “"I am taking the action I took to undo a wrong . . . [t]he revocation was not valid in my opinion, and I'm fighting to have it voided” . . . [meanwhile, Franklin County Sheriff Robert] Wollyung has said that the court will probably rule against him.”[4]
From the looks of the discussion threads on the Pennsylvania Firearms Owners Association and OpenCarry.org web sites,[5] it looks like a whole passel of gun carriers will be saddlin’ up and headin’ over to Chambersburg to see what the Chief Judge of Franklin County is going to do about this mess created by a Sheriff who appears to have known he was abusing his office from the start.
Events scheduled so far for Tuesday, 8 Jan:
Prior Meeting Location: New Texas Lunch Restaurant 108 Lincoln Way W (717) 264-4439
2:00 pm. Franklin County Court Administration 157 Lincoln Way E Chambersburg, PA 17201 Courtroom 1 (717) 261-3848 Presiding Judge: John R. Walker
Post-Hearing Meal: Hoss's Steakhouse 1740 Lincoln Way East (717) 263-0264
Adding a strange twist to events on Tuesday is the fact that over-reacting Franklin County Sheriff Robert Wollyung leaves office on Monday, Jan. 7 and apparently public life as well since he lost his bid to become the mayor of Chambersburg in the Nov. 2007 election.
See you in Chambersburg!
